Hand in Hand for Haiti – Help Us Build a School

After the devastating earthquake in Haiti there was a desperate need for funds to not only help rescue the survivors but also help rebuild the country. Those needs are still there and Haiti needs global support to rebuild its long-term sustainable infrastructures, one of which is educational facilities.

Hand in hand for Haiti is US based non-profit organization built to raise funds, find a building sites and construct earthquake and hurricane proof schools in needed areas of the country. According to the Hand in Hand for Haiti website just in the capital city of Port-au-Prince some 4000 schools were destroyed.

The planned schools are to provide education from kindergarten to 12th grade, vocational training classes, teachers training and creating local jobs for the community. The first phase of this school is to open by September 2010 and focuses on 3 pre-school classes and 1 first grade class. The school is going to be built in phases till it can house pre-school to 12th grade classes.
