Are You Getting Enough Calcium?

Osteoporosis and women

I just received an interesting newsletter called “For My Bones” from I guess a drug manufacturing company and I found a lot of interesting information about women and calcium intake.

As you all know osteoporosis is one of major issues that will possibly knock on any of our doors as we get older. I remember when my mom came home one day from a yearly check up and told my sister and I that she has shrunk 3 cm. Of course being 14 and 9 years old we had no clue what she was talking about and we thought that she was being, funny. Now I know better, so I’m going to share some of the info I got off the “For My Bones” newsletter.

Calcium intake varies between different age group, the older you become the more calcium you need to consume.

Notice how tweens/teenagers and adult over the age of 50+ have the highest number of calcium need, one for growing bones and the other for fragile bones.

If you’re not sure how much calcium you take per day tryout the calcium calculator on the Osteoporosis Canada website, it’s pretty interesting. Apparently I had 2195mg of calcium today, yay for me!!! haha

Now, how do we know what we can eat to get our daily requirement. Fear not, here’s a chart with some suggestions!

I hope this information was helpful/interesting for you ladies!

*Bare in mind, I’m not a doctor, I’m not advising anyone to follow this information and use them without consulting their physician.
